Tower and vault tours

You can book tickets at any time at tickets.st-marien-luebeck.de. It's easy to do using the ticket button at the top of our website.

You can also purchase your tickets directly on site during the church's opening hours. In addition, guided tours can also be booked at all known Lübeck-Ticket advance booking offices:

• Tourist Information Office at the Holstentor
• Digital Store of the Lübecker Nachrichten (Königstraße)
• Music and Congress Hall (MuK)
• CITTI-Park Lübeck
• Tourist Information Travemünde
• Tourism Agency Lübecker Bucht (Scharbeutz, etc.)

Remaining tickets are also available from the tour guide – just ask them if you can join in spontaneously.
Tickets for regular tours are usually available from around 6 weeks before the tour.

A tower and vault tour costs €17.00 per person (adults) and €8.75 for children and young people up to the age of 18. This includes the advance booking fee (over which we have no influence).

Special tours (such as the evening bell tour) are slightly more expensive, as we provide ear protection, for example.

The ticket price goes entirely and exclusively towards the preservation of St Marien Church. Our guides also volunteer their time to lead the tours.

So by taking part in a tour, you are also helping to save a special piece of world heritage.

Gift vouchers are expected to be available shortly.

What you can do instead: You can, of course, purchase a regular ticket and give it to the person(s) of your choice. Or, if there are several of you, you are welcome to request a special exclusive tour.

All persons aged 6 and above may participate in the tower and vault tours. For your own safety, carrying babies is not permitted.

We also recommend a certain level of fitness, a head for heights and sturdy footwear, as well as warm clothing, especially in the evenings and in winter.

There is no lift or ramp to the towers; the tour is not wheelchair accessible.

People under the influence of alcohol, medication or drugs are not permitted to participate.

The meeting point is at the pillar behind the ticket office in the church during opening hours. Please inform the staff in the ticket office that you are there for a guided tour.

Outside opening hours, the meeting point is at the devil statue right to the main entrance at Marienkirchhof.

You can recognise our guides by their name badges.

The tour is led by our volunteer guides, who want to share with all visitors the fascination of this building, magnificent views, and the stories and legends surrounding St Marien.

We cannot say in advance who will be your guide for the public tower and vault tours.

As our guides each have different areas of focus, no two tours are the same, so you will always discover something new, even if you take several tours.

All our guides are regularly trained in first aid and instructed in the safety guidelines applicable at St Marien.

A tour lasts approximately two to two and a half hours. The exact duration may vary depending on factors such as group size, interest, or weather conditions. It is not possible to leave the tour early while inside the towers, except in cases of medical emergencies.

Before entering the towers, there is another opportunity to use the toilet/restroom.

There are no toilets in the towers and vaults themselves.

You are welcome to take photographs. However, please hold your camera or smartphone securely in your hands on the upper levels. Drones are not permitted.

Live streams of the tours are not permitted, nor is filming our guides without their permission. In this case, please speak to our guides in advance to explain what you intend to do and for what purpose.

If you plan to publish your photos (e.g. on social media), please ensure that no other persons (including our guides) appear in your photos without their permission.

We recommend sturdy footwear and clothing that can get a little dusty.

We strongly recommend warm clothing, especially in the winter months.

Feel free to bring a small bottle of water (0.5 l) in summer or a thermos cup of tea in winter.

You can leave backpacks, luggage, bags, etc. in a locked room away from the public in the church before the tour at your own risk.

We currently offer public tours of the tower and vaults in German only.
If you would still like to take part in a tour, please ask the guide in advance if they could translate at least parts of it into English.

We can offer special tours in English as well as German on request.

Do you speak a particular language and can you imagine giving others a great experience with it? Our team of volunteers is always happy to welcome new members!

Please inform your tour guide immediately. There are first aid stations on every level of the towers. All our guides receive regular first aid training.

We kindly request that you arrive punctually for your chosen tour time. The tours will remain in the church for a few minutes at the start and then proceed to the towers shortly afterwards. It is therefore not possible to join the tour late. Please note that booked tickets will be forfeited in the event of late arrival.

Of course! There is something new to discover and experience on every tour.

Since our volunteer guides focus on different aspects during their tours, no two tours are alike.
