Tower and vault tours
The vault of St. Mary's nave is 38.50 metres high. Visitors on the tower and vault tours can see the mighty vaulted ceilings from above. They stand beneath the enormous roof and look through window hatches, open working doors and from the ridge turret onto the old town and, on a clear day, as far as Travemünde, Mecklenburg and Holstein.
The route there leads up around 800 stairs in the towers – past the carillon, the wall crown and the belfry.
The tour lasts a good two and a half hours and is filled with stories about the harsh working conditions of our medieval ancestors, many of whom spent their entire lives working on this building. It is an encounter with the great intellectual, technical and physical achievements of the people of the 13th and 14th centuries – and of the period of reconstruction after 1945.
Request a special tour
Are you visiting Lübeck with friends for a few days? Would you like to stretch your legs a little after a conference? Or do you need a birthday present? Are you looking for an unusual place to propose marriage? Are you organising your company's Christmas party and still don't have any ideas?
Then a private tour of the tower and vault is something very special. On request, we are happy to offer you a tour at your desired time – for example, at noon or at sunset. We also try to accommodate thematic focuses, language and any other requests. The tours are conducted by our team of volunteers.
Please note that for organisational reasons, we require approximately two weeks' notice.
We look forward to your enquiry!
