Themed Tours

Would you like to receive in-depth information on a specific topic during a guided tour? We are also happy to offer guided tours focusing on specific areas of the church. These could include, for example:

  • Antwerpener Marienaltar (Marienaltar from Antwerp)
The history of saint worship can be explained particularly well in the Marientiden Chapel – especially the cult of Mary, using the altar as an example: What do the depictions mean? How are the altar and its architectural surroundings connected?
  • Lübecker Totentanz (Dance of Death)
The original medieval Dance of Death from St Marien was lost during the Second World War. The tour explains the origins and significance of the Dance of Death depictions by Bernd Notke and Alfred Mahlau
  • Faith and art
The high choir contains many sacred works of art, which we will show you and explain in detail: crucifix, high altar, Heiber altar, baptismal font and tabernacle. The tour is accompanied by biblical texts and music
  • In the footsteps of holy women
St Marien Church has been Protestant since the Reformation, but there are still statues of saints here. The tour begins with a general introduction and continues with the life stories of St. Anne, St. Dorothy, St. Catherine and others, based on biblical sources and legends
  • Church Explorations
We also offer church educational tours for nursery groups, school classes and adults.
  • Chuch music
St Marien has a rich musical history and heritage. From Tunder to Buxtehude and Bach to the modern era, there is much to discover: composers, organs, making the room itself sing, and much more can be arranged on request

Feel free to get in touch with us, and together we will find the tour that perfectly suits you, your group and your interests. Either use the enquiry form above or visit our contact page.
