Something for everyone
Various choirs and ensembles await you at St Marien. Shall we meet at a concert?

Die Lübecker Knabenkantorei (Lübeck Boys' Choir)
Thousands of listeners attend the traditional Christmas carol singing during Advent every year. But the singers also participate in many church services and special events throughout the rest of the church year. Another highlight is the annual performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's St John Passion on Good Friday.
The Lübeck Boys' Choir was founded in 1948. Since 1971, St Marien has been its musical home. It has around 100 singers in various groups, 60 of whom are in the concert choir. The repertoire includes sacred choral music from all eras of European musical tradition. A special focus is on the works of Lübeck Baroque master Dieterich Buxtehude.
Rehearsals take place several times a week in the rehearsal hall donated and maintained by the Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft (Charitable Society) in the heart of Lübeck's old town. The choir also receives support from the St Marien parish and the choir's circle of friends and patrons.
Detailed information and all concert dates can be found on the Lübecker Knabenkantorei website:
Capella St Marien
Marienorganist Johannes Unger founded the Capella St Marien ensemble in 2010, which performs under his direction. It comprises approximately 30 singers and instrumentalists. The ensemble performs in church services and concerts, during the annual Buxtehude Days and the Lübeck Evening Concerts in St Marien. Capella St Marien has already performed works by Tunder, Buxtehude, Bach, Vierne, Latry, Liszt, Karg-Elert and Unger.
Capella St Marien is looking for singers of all voice types with choir experience and vocal training.

MarienBrass
Since 2013, there has been a successful collaboration between the NDR (North German Broadcasting) Brass Ensemble and Marienorganist Johannes Unger.
The desire for ongoing collaboration with the NDR musicians gave rise to the idea for something new.
In 2015, Constantin Ribbentrop and Johannes Unger initiated the MarienBrass ensemble, which, in addition to the standard repertoire, is also dedicated to the unique musical tradition of St Marien with its famous composers Buxtehude and Tunder.

Music in the making
I really enjoy singing in the Capella. The varied repertoire and the process of working from the first musical score to a performance in this magnificent church fascinate me anew with every single piece.
