The 4-Quarters-Foundation

Four quarters, one tradition

Four quarters is not just a metre. Four quarters is not just the division of Lübeck's Old Town Island. Four quarters also means: culture, tradition, preservation, conservation, future, passing on, learning, amazement, enthusiasm.

The Foundation in Lübeck

Music is a living Tradition

The Church Music Foundation of the four Lübeck city centre parishes, or "4 Viertel" for short, is intended to help ensure that the unique cultural heritage resulting from the long tradition of church music in Lübeck is preserved for future generations.

Supported by the sense of responsibility and commitment of citizens, the foundation is intended in particular to raise funds from the proceeds of which the high financial needs are secured, which are no longer adequately covered by the church tax revenue.

Create value

BECOME PART OF A STORY

Lübeck's historic city centre is still one of the most impressive urban landscapes in Germany. The city owes much of its success to private donors.

Over the centuries, they have helped to shape the cityscape as well as social and cultural life in Lübeck with their funds and commitment. The series of patrons begins in the 13th century and extends to the present day, most conspicuously evidenced by the numerous bronze plaques "Restored with the help of ...".

Not only the buildings belong to Lübeck, but also its organs. High-ranking church music is part of our city's heritage. Whether in church services or concerts - time and again, visitors from outside the city enviously admire this "treasure" of Lübeck's city centre churches. This musical tradition also includes the numerous children's and youth choirs, in which the values and attitudes of the Christian faith are taught alongside the joy of making music.

The Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck are considered to have the most foundations in Germany. Civic involvement has a long tradition here. To this day, the motives for this desire to help shape the city have remained surprisingly constant.

Every donation is a commitment to one's own city, which, even in times of previously unknown mobility, is more than just a place where one lives and works. Every donation is a commitment to a cultural tradition that is to be passed on from the depths of the past through the present to the future. In this way, donating breaks through the circle of purely private interests and integrates the donor into the cultural greatness that is Lübeck. "Donating" therefore not only means "giving money", but also giving meaning.

The 4-Quarters-Foundation is a legally independent foundation. The foundation capital comes from the four city centre parishes and the church district. The foundation has been recognised by the Ministry of the Interior of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, is subject to the state's foundation supervision and has an additional supervisory body in the form of the foundation council; it is managed by four honorary board members.

The aim and purpose of the foundation is to build up a capital stock that is invested conservatively (in accordance with the guidelines of the North Elbian Church) and from the proceeds of which church music in Lübeck will one day be financed.

The foundation is recognised as a non-profit organisation by the Lübeck tax office. You will receive a donation receipt if you note your address on the remittance slip.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Preserve something special

Concerts in Lübeck's old town churches are an integral part of the city's cultural life. Every concert, every ensemble, every organ is unique. From young to old, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved. I am happy to support that.
